Volunteer Job Description
Title of Position: Spanish/Arabic/Ukrainian Translator
Location/Program: Satellite Basic Needs Food Bank Locations
Description of Assignment: Assisting the Community Service Workers in the food banks with in person translation services and/or translating resource and program materials for distribution
Specific Duties:
- Greet all community members arriving at the food banks with a smile and warm greeting
- Assisting with the translation of required documents using Microsoft Word and/or Canva
- Providing translation at program workshops
- Assisting with participant/visitor sign-in
- Treat people with dignity, being friendly within professional boundaries
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age and be willing to provide The Salvation Army with a police record check
- Must be patient and have an ability to express compassion and empathy
- Be sensitive to the unique needs of those living on a low income or are experiencing a mental health or addiction problem
- Be sensitive to the unique needs of new arrivals to Canada
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must be able to work in a team environment and communicate effectively and positively with customers, fellow volunteers and staff.
- Fluent in English and Spanish or Arabic or Ukrainian
- Proficiency in languages other than English, Spanish, Arabic or Ukrainian is an asset
- Basic computer skills
Requirements:

- Dress code and other professional standards and policies must be adhered to.
- Confidentiality and cooperation is expected.
SCHEDULE:
Minimum four hours weekly, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday 9-1
LENGTH OF COMMITMENT NECESSARY: 6 weeks with option for extension
